Course: Dinner, Main Course
Cuisine: German-Inspired, Indian-Inspired

Ingredients

  • 500 g chicken breast fillet cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 100 g butter
  • 4 cloves garlic finely chopped (add more if you love garlic!)
  • 200 ml cream whipping cream or cooking cream
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • salt to taste (adjust at the end)
  • French Fries as much as you like, crispy fried or oven-baked

Equipment

  • Large Pan or Pot

Method

  1. Step 1: Melt Butter. Take a large pan or pot and slowly melt the 100g butter over medium heat.
  2. Step 2: Sauté Garlic. As soon as the butter is liquid and starts to bubble gently, add the finely chopped garlic. Sauté it briefly, for about one minute, until it smells wonderful and turns a light golden-brown color. Be careful not to burn it, or it will turn bitter!
  3. Step 3: Sear Chicken. Now add the cubed chicken breast pieces to the pan. Sear them on all sides until they are golden brown and cooked through. This usually only takes a few minutes, depending on the size of the cubes.
  4. Step 4: Add Spices. Now sprinkle the Garam Masala and a pinch of salt over the seared chicken. Stir everything well so that the spices are evenly distributed and can develop their aroma. It will already smell wonderful!
  5. Step 5: Pour in Cream and Simmer. Pour in the cream. Stir well again so that the cream combines with the butter and spices to form a creamy sauce. Let the mixture simmer gently for another 2-3 minutes. The sauce will thicken slightly and become wonderfully creamy.
  6. Step 6: Serve. And that's it! Serve the creamy Butter Chicken immediately hot. And now for the highlight: don't serve it with rice or bread, but with your crispy hot French fries! The perfect combination!

Notes

Variations & Additions: You can use boneless, skinless chicken thighs instead of breast for juicier results. Add a pinch of chili flakes or a finely chopped chili with the garlic if you like it spicy. For a vegan version, use coconut milk instead of cream and tofu or chickpeas instead of chicken (the taste will be different but also delicious!). You can add a handful of frozen peas or diced bell peppers for the last few minutes of simmering. Freshly chopped cilantro or flat-leaf parsley make a wonderful topping.
Tips for Perfect Enjoyment: Be careful not to burn the garlic; just sauté it briefly. Don't overcook the chicken; only cook until just done. Use fresh, aromatic Garam Masala for the best flavor. Start with less salt and adjust at the end. Serve the fries directly from the fryer, oven, or air fryer – soggy fries are a no-go here!
Storage: Leftovers (if there are any!) can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat slowly in a pot on the stove or briefly in the microwave. It's best to make the fries fresh or only prepare the amount you'll eat immediately, as reheated fries are rarely as good.
