Method
- Step 1: In a bowl, mix the flour with a pinch of salt. Add yogurt and eggs, then stir well until a thick batter forms. It should not be too runny to coat the apple rings properly.
- Step 2: Peel the apples, core them, and cut into about 1 cm thick rings. Lightly drizzle with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Step 3: Heat the fat in a frying pan over medium-high heat. The pan should be hot enough to make the apple rings crispy but not so hot that they burn.
- Step 4: Dip the apple rings one by one into the batter and carefully place them in the hot pan. Fry, turning regularly, until golden brown all around.
- Step 5: Remove the cooked apple rings and drain on paper towels to remove excess fat.
- Step 6: Serve the apple rings warm and dust generously with powdered sugar.
Notes
Variations include adding cinnamon or vanilla to the batter for extra aroma, using cinnamon sugar or honey for coating, and trying savory dips like herbed cream cheese. Apple rings can also be baked instead of fried at 200 °C for about 15 minutes for a less greasy version. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days and reheat briefly to restore crispiness.
